New aid programme for Walloon inland waterway transport <

The new aid programme in Wallonia for the period 2014-2020 has been announced and approved by the European Commission. This plan aims at developing inland waterways freight transport in Wallonia, and greening an efficient fleet .

Several grants are available through the programme, and more in particular for:   - Investments to develop freight transport by inland waterway or railway 30% for SMEs, 20% for large enterprises, maximum 500,000 euro, period 4 years

  • Technical refurbishment of walloon inland fleet 30% for SMEs, 20% for large enterprises, maximum 200,000 euro, period  3 years New in this grant is that the grants is increased to 50% of total investment for the purchase and installation of alternative propulsion systems or systems to reduce harmful emissions of conventional engines
  • Purchase of first (second-hand) inland vessel 30% for SMEs, 20% for large enterprises, maximum 200,000 euro, period  3 years
  • Developing regular container line service by inland waterway Fixed amount depending on container size, max 30% of operation costs for SMEs, 20% for large enterprises
  • Realising studies to identify opportunities and feasability of a shift to multmodal transport 50 % of consulting fees, max 12,500 per enterprise, only for individuals or SMEs
