Inland Navigation Europe exists to promote and demonstrate the economic and environmental benefits of waterborne transport across the European Union. Europe’s network of navigable rivers and canals offers access to the continent’s urban and industrial centres, allowing for the more efficient, cleaner, quieter, and safer transport of goods - large and small.
INE is the European platform for national and regional waterway managers and promotion bureaux. It is an independent membership organisation without commercial interests.
INE members form a strong network of waterway promoters for the exchange of experiences, the transfer of know-how, the development of long-term strategies and the implementation of joint projects.
INE actively lobbies At EU level for measures which makes inland waterways easier-to-use by influencing the policies and proposals relevant for waterway transport made by the EU institutions.
Communication & promotion
INE communicates and promotes the benefits and potential of transport by water with the aim of strengthening the development and advantages of this transportation means to the benefit of a more balanced and sustainable transport system.
Inland Navigation Europe has as mission to contribute to long-term strategies for sustainable transportation by moving more goods by water in EU regions and cities with accessible and navigable rivers and canals. INE does this by sharing best practice, active policy advocacy and promotion.
